Greek National Day, also known as Independence Day, is celebrated in Cyprus and is one of the most important holidays in the country. Every 25th March, people of Cyprus commemorate the start of the Greek War of Independence from the Ottoman Empire in 1821. This national holiday is not just celebrated in Cyprus but also in Greece and by Greek communities worldwide.

The day is usually marked with numerous festivities like parades by students and military personnel. The street parades are a sight to behold, mirroring the brimming pride in every Cypriot heart for their historical heritage. In larger cities, these celebrations include performances of traditional Greek music and dances, with the residents donning traditional costumes, infusing the atmosphere with a strong sense of national identity.

Aside from the parades and festivities, the Greek National Day is also noted for its spiritual significance. Many people attend church services to commemorate the Annunciation by archangel Gabriel to the Virgin Mary that she would become the mother of Jesus Christ, as the Greek Orthodox Church celebrates the Annunciation on the same day. Hence, the Greek National Day in Cyprus is not only a celebration of political freedom but also a day of religious observance.
