Kannada Rajyotsava, also known as Karnataka Formation Day, is one of the most significant state festivals in the southern Indian state of Karnataka. It is celebrated annually on November 1, marking the date in 1956 when all the Kannada-speaking regions of South India were merged to form the state of Karnataka.

The 'Rajyotsava' in 'Kannada Rajyotsava' literally translates to 'state festival'. On this day, the citizens of Karnataka unite to celebrate the unity, harmony, and its rich culture and tradition. It is an official public holiday in the state which is marked by a series of cultural events including folk dance performances, music concerts, and colorful processions. Citizens proudly hoist the yellow and red Karnataka flag, the symbol of the state's identity.

Although it is a state-centric festival, Kannada Rajyotsava is widely celebrated by Kannadigas residing across the globe. Many schools and colleges around Karnataka organize various cultural events where children showcase their talent. The government of Karnataka also confers the Rajyotsava awards on this day, which are given to people who have made significant contributions to the state in various fields.
