Labour Day is an annual public holiday celebrated in Rwanda as well as many other countries around the world. The holiday, typically celebrated on the 1st of May, is a dedication to the social and economic achievements of workers and laborers. It originated from the labor union movement advocating eight hours for work, eight hours for recreation, and eight hours for rest.

The Labour Day in Rwanda is characterized by various activities which mainly include organized speeches from labor unions, government officials and labour organizations. The speeches usually focus on the rights of workers, their safety in workplaces, fair pay and the significance of their contribution to the national economy. Many workers also use the day to relax and spend time with family and friends due to the long-standing tradition of treating it as a day of rest.

Over the years, Rwanda has taken measures to ensure that worker's rights are protected and that satisfactory conditions of work are guaranteed. The Labour Day commemoration underlines these endeavors. As in many other countries, this day serves as a timely reminder of the pivotal role that laborers play in building a nation and the need to continually honor their sacrifices, tirelessness, and hard work.
