Christmas Day in Nepal is not traditionally observed since Nepal is predominantly a Hindu and Buddhist country. However, due to the influence of Western culture and the presence of a small Christian minority along with numerous tourists, this holiday has found its place in the diverse festival calendar of the country. Many hotels, restaurants, and businesses catering to tourists will celebrate Christmas with parties, dinners, Christmas trees, and decorations.

On Christmas Day, there's a myriad of activities that transpire in larger cities like Kathmandu. The small group of Christians in Nepal celebrate Christmas Day with church services where they sing hymns, recite prayers and have Communion. They decorate their homes with colorful candles, stars, and Christmas trees. People also exchange presents with loved ones, a practice that has gained popularity even among non-Christians.

When Christmas approaches, you can see a noticeable change in places like Kathmandu's Thamel area, where shops start selling Christmas decorations; restaurants and hotels prepare special Christmas menus and throw parties. The shopping malls and most of the streets are lit up with wonderful decorations and Christmas themes. Despite being a foreign festival, Christmas Day has certainly brought a touch of joy and merriment to the winter season in Nepal.
