Saints Cyril and Methodius Day is a public holiday celebrated on 24th May annually in North Macedonia. It is a holiday with religious and cultural significance, commemorating two Byzantine Greek brothers, Saints Cyril and Methodius. These brothers, originating from Thessaloniki in the 9th century, are known for being evangelists and cultural figures who developed the Glagolitic alphabet - the first alphabet used to transcribe Old Church Slavonic.

The legacy of Saints Cyril and Methodius is firmly embedded in Macedonian culture and history. The brothers are considered co-patrons of Europe because of their fundamental role in the Christianization of the Slavs. They created the cornerstone for the Slavic literature, which provides a significant contribution to the development of the Macedonian language.
