World Azerbaijanis Solidarity Day, recognized on December 31st, is a public non-working day in Azerbaijan. This event marks the unity and solidarity of the millions of people of Azeri ethnicity living around the globe. The holiday was founded by the former Azerbaijani President Heydar Aliyev in 1991, amidst the dissolving Soviet Union, hard economic conditions and when the national-cultural identities of nations started re-establishing.

This special day is a symbol of unity and solidarity among Azerbaijanis worldwide. Those living in different corners of the globe use this day to advocate for the rights, freedom, and wellbeing of their kindred, particularly those living in the Republic of Azerbaijan and Iranian Azerbaijan. On this day, it is common to send postcards, call distant relatives, take part in cultural events and express support for Azerbaijan.

World Azerbaijanis Solidarity Day goes beyond fostering unity among the Azerbaijanis. It also aims at promoting Azerbaijani culture, traditions, and values to the world. Characterized by festive traditions such as concerts, parades, and exciting cultural displays, the holiday serves as an opportunity to showcase and celebrate the rich Azerbaijani heritage to the global community. Despite facing several challenges over the years, Azerbaijanis remain steadfast in their resolve to maintain their ethnic, cultural, and national identity.
